Our Programs
Creating real change through innovative educational programs

M-lugha designs inclusive digital learning solutions that break language barriers in education. Our website and mobile application deliver the Kenyan Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) translated into 19 local Kenyan languages approved by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).
The platform uses images, animated videos, and interactive audio-enabled buttons that translate learning content from English into local languages. This allows learners to use their first known language to understand new and unfamiliar concepts taught in a second or third language. By learning in a familiar language, learners gain confidence, deeper comprehension, and smoother transitions between languages. This approach significantly improves literacy and numeracy outcomes, especially in early and foundational learning.
Currently, M-lugha's multilingual content is used by over 17,000 learners across 30 countries, demonstrating its scalability and global relevance.

Through our Code Clubs and Community Learning Centres, M-lugha introduces learners aged 5 to 17 years to creative coding, robotics, and artificial intelligence (AI).
This program directly supports the Kenya Ministry of Education's mission to integrate coding and robotics into public primary and junior secondary school curricula. Learners engage in hands-on, age-appropriate activities that help them understand how technology works, rather than just consuming it.
By encouraging exploration, creativity, and problem-solving, the program nurtures digital confidence and inspires learners to pursue future careers across the wide and growing technology ecosystem, including software development, engineering, AI, and digital innovation.

Elwork is M-lugha's youth skilling and employment program focused on preparing young people for today's digital economy.
We train youth in in-demand digital skills such as translation and interpretation, logistics dispatch, software development, and digital design. Beyond training, M-lugha actively connects trained youth to employment opportunities, both virtually and within local markets, linking them with employers who require these skills. This ensures that learning translates into real economic opportunities.
Elwork contributes to workforce development, reduced unemployment, and economic growth by enabling young people to earn sustainable incomes and participate meaningfully in the national and global digital economy.

M-lugha implements technology-enabled school and community kitchen gardens that integrate agriculture, education, and nutrition.
These gardens are equipped with high-speed internet and surveillance cameras, improving security and enabling real-time monitoring of activities such as watering, weeding, and harvesting. The program is supported by a mobile application called Beertena, which provides learners and farmers with a step-by-step gardening masterclass—from land preparation and planting to harvesting, marketing, and basic bookkeeping.
Technology is also used to educate communities through live streaming of farming activities, promoting modern, sustainable agricultural practices. The gardens directly support child nutrition, leading to healthier learners. Program data shows that school attendance improves in communities where these projects are implemented, as healthy children attend school more consistently.

Elimu Mashinani addresses the unique challenges faced by secondary schools in North Eastern Kenya, including teacher shortages and lack of critical learning infrastructure.
M-lugha provides these schools with battery-powered routers preloaded with audio-visual offline curriculum content. Learners can connect to the system to stream lessons offline, attempt quizzes, and access digital books without requiring internet connectivity.
This solution ensures continuity and quality of learning despite infrastructure limitations, helping bridge educational inequality and support schools in underserved and hard-to-reach regions.

Our Adult Literacy Program is designed to support women, men, and youth who are above school-going age, particularly in rural, underserved, and refugee communities.
The program focuses on building basic literacy and numeracy skills using learning materials written in local languages, making learning accessible, relevant, and practical. Teaching is delivered through community-based classes held in marketplaces and M-lugha's community learning centres, ensuring convenience for learners who balance education with work and family responsibilities. Learning is self-paced and learner-centered, taking into account the unique abilities, experiences, and needs of each participant.
Beyond reading and numeracy, the program includes basic marketing, sales, and bookkeeping skills, enabling learners to manage their small businesses more effectively. Program beneficiaries consistently report higher incomes, improved financial tracking, and greater confidence after completing the program, demonstrating its strong impact on economic empowerment and lifelong learning.
